Captain’s Drive In 2016

Nick Easter drove into his Captancy year on January 3rd at Santa Maria Golf Club supported by family, friends, members and staff of the club. Tradition is that the incoming Captain must try to get over the lake with the giant’s club, which inevitably fails. That is followed by the old exploding ball trick until eventually they get to the real thing. In addition the crowd places their bets on where the drive will finish which this year it was won by Nick Rimmer, a friend from Exeter, England who was amongst a large crowd who flew over for the occassion. He obviously had faith in the new Captain as the drive was 225 yards in the middle of the fairway.

Also during the afternoon lunch Jeremy Byrne, who along with his wife Derdre have been members for 15 years, was made Vice-Captain. Jeremy has been a Captain of his club before in Ireland and will no doubt be prepared for what the next two years has in store for him.
