John Armstrong Memorial Trophy

The first John Armstrong Memorial Trophy was held in November after he sadly left us last year. John was one of the original members of the club when it was founded back in the early 90’s. He was also a past captain from the year 1998 and loved by everyone at the club. An architect by profession, Santa Maria was a large part of his later life after designing and building a house overlooking the course.

John was part of the original ‘Dad’s Army’ who formed the men’s Monday Club competition which is still played weekly to this day, so it was only natural that the Monday Club held the competition. The winner of the first edition was Frank Smyth with 36 points off a handicap of 9, winning on the lowest handicap after 4 players tied the top score, Axel Anspach, Ian Watson and Frank Blashill. Maggie Armstrong, John’s wife presented the trophy along with Colin Mosley from the board of directors.
