With the arrival of winter we have to face a drop in temperature. Winter arrived on the 21st of December 2017 and will not leave us until the 20th of March 2018. In the Costa del Sol we are lucky enough to have warm weather all year around, which allow us to enjoy our outdoor activities.  However, you might find a few days of cold and wind. At Santa María Golf Club we want you to enjoy your favourite sport throughout the year, and for that reason we bring you some tips to play golf in winter time. Protect yourself from the cold, follow our recommendations and enjoy yourself!

Use appropriate sports clothing: look for those clothes that are warm, insulating and protect you from the cold. Try to choose thermal and light clothes that warm you up but at the same time offer you freedom of movement. That way you can play more comfortably and you will only have to worry about your game.

Protect your feet and hands: use specific gloves to play golf so you can keep your hands warm and avoid contact with the golf club. As for your feet it is essential that you wear appropriate shoes that isolate you from the cold and humidity.

Stay hydrated: in summer we feel more thirsty but with the arrival of winter it is easier to forget to drink water. A very common mistake that can affect your game and your health.  With the cold your body consumes more energy than usual, which is why it is important to maintain an adequate hydration. Always carry a bottle of water with you. You can also take hot coffee, tea or chocolate.

Take care of your skin: in summer we protect our body from the sun, but sometimes we forget the importance of doing it also in winter. We recommend you to use cream in those areas that are exposed (face, hands, etc) and especially don’t forget to use lip balm to prevent your lips from drying out and cracking.

Luckily, the cold days in our area are few and allow us to enjoy a pleasant climate and sunshine throughout the year. But if you suffer with the cold weather and the winter lessens your desire to play outdoors, follow our recommendations and you will be able to enjoy your favourite sport without any problems.
