Santa Maria Junior David Fifth in Spanish Championship

Three juniors from the Santa Maria junior section qualified to compete in the National Championship played recently in the La Manga Club in Murcia. Rocco Repetto and Fermín Palma played in the ‘Infantil’ category which is age 13-14 and David Schnieder in the ‘Alevín’ category for age 12. It’s not easy to get into this event as entrants are selected through scores in official federationed events only regardless of local handicaps. A field of all the top juniors in Spain travel to play the 3 day event which is run by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.

David scored 76 and 78 which left him alone in second place after the first two rounds. Out in the last group on the third and final round was a great experience for the youngster and a respectable 80 meant that he completed three rounds in a row under his handicap. He finished in a tie for fifth place in a field of 90 participants, an amazing result that has made the club proud as well as his parents for sure.
