Captain’s Drive In 2017

Sunday the 8th January marked the changing of the Captains at Santa Maria Golf Club.  After a very successful year Nick Easter passed the helm to Jeremy Byrne. Jeremy brings a wealth of experience to the role having been Captain of his home club in Ireland although that was 40 years ago. He was supported by many members of the club as well as his wife Diedre and his son Paul who travelled from Ireland for the special occassion.

Activities started at 9.30 with food and mulled wine followed by the drive in over the lakes on hole 1. Then a 9 hole betterball matchplay is contested with half of the field representing the out-going captain and half the incoming captain. It was a close match but Jeremy finished just ahead by 1 match. Our restaurant H19 was the final act providing a delightful lunch and setting the stage for the presentations. Colin Mosely, founder of the club presented Nick Easter with his Silver Galleon to mark his achievements as Captain in 2016. Jeremy then announced his committee for the coming year and presented Les McGlasson as his vice captain.

Congratulation Jeremy and Les, the club wishes you all the best for 2017.
